I'm a transplanted Texas

Postby Flo Baker » Sat Mar 13, 2010 3:22 pm

Hi Kyle, Barbara, Elizabeth and all the fans on this site.
I am almost 65 and a retired academic librarian (last job at Incarnate Word in San Antonio). I currently live in Kerrville, Texas but was born and raised in the Catskills in New York State. I think I love the hill country because it reminds me of home without the snow! ;) I saw my first opera when I was in college at Indiana University. My roommate was an opera major. It was years before I saw another opera but gradually got back into it. I now spend some time every summer at the Santa Fe Opera. Barbara, if you ever sing there, I'll be there too!!
My daughter and I watch America's Got Talent every year. I knew Barbara would do well from the first audition. We voted and voted for her, but you all know the outcome. But, sometimes I think it's better to come in second. You don't have all the commitments that the first place winner does. And it doesn't seem to have hurt Barbara's budding career! There have been many runners-up who have done better than the winners (example Clay Aiken and Susan Boyle!!)
I saw Barbara perform in Vegas in October. Blew me away!! I belong to Tommy Yelverton's Barbara Padilla site and when I met Barbara after the show, she was so excited to meet someone from the site. I hope to see her perform again soon.
