Watching the Latest America's Got Talent

Barbara would whup the whole bunch.

Then again, anyone with any sense knows her talent and courageous story should have whupped the whole bunch last year, too.

Yes, Piers' comment was startling.

Last year, I thought the two finalists might be Barbara and the Texas Tenors, with Barbara winning it all.

Ok don't even get me started ladies...my opinions often get me into trouble...

You all know how I feel. Barbara should have won last year hands down. That chicken boy got it still burns my butt and still leaves me wondering if America has any sense at all.

This year, ugh. I watched a couple of times and I can't even watch.
The best talent ever??? Pa-leeeeezzzz
No, don't think so. The "talent" this year (or last) can't hold a candle to Barbara.

I remain a loyal fan ever since that first audition that floored me. Every time I hear her sing it brings me right back. I have never lost the sheer awe I feel when I hear her sing. Hopefully I will be hearing more soon.

Guess I should have written what I wrote on the photo post on this instead. When Piers said that I couldn't believe it. As I said the only act I have liked so far is Fighting Gravity. Last years top 10 were so much better and I believe last year had the best talent of all the season's. I haven't voted yet. Time will tell, but I doubt I will vote this year. I used up all my votes last year on Barbara! :D

I live in the UK and am currently watching AGT series 5. Barbara, you have completely blown me away! For years, I have loved Maria Callas and more recently Katherine Jenkins, but you are streets ahead. You are an inspiration with a beautiful voice. I can't wait for the release of your CD. I wish you every success for the future. Thank you and god Bless x

kaylizh...Make sure you check out Facebook and "friend" Barbara. Welcome to this website. We all adore Barbara and share your enthusiasm. I am glad last year's AGT has made it to the British airwaves. Such exposre will surely create an even larger "enlightened" market for her CD when it is released.

Also... What you see of her on TV just scratches the surface of how it is to hear her in person. In addition, she is truly beautiful inside and out. The "real deal". Wonderful personality.

I posted a number of links you might find enjoyable several month ago. I think you might enjoy them!

I haven't seen ANY talent this year that even comes close to Barbara and the Texas Tenors. This is a bum year and I refuse to vote for anyone, they aren't talented!!! But after Barbara, guess I am spoiled! Darcey in NC

Does anybody as angry as I am at Sharon's "fat and sweaty opera singers" remark?

Even if we look at only AGT, most classical singers on this show weren't fat. Barbara who is probably the only real opera singer on this show (other than Donald Braswell before his accident) is very slim and beautiful, much better looking than Sharon.

@kaylizh - you do know that Katherine Jenkins is a classical crossover (popera) singer, not an opera singer, right? She has a pleasant tone, is very beautiful, and I am sure gives joy to a lot of people, it's just that opera isn't really her genre. If you compare her to real operatic mezzo sopranos like for example Elina Garanca, Joyce DiDonato, Jennifer Larmore, Denyce Graves, Kate Aldrich, Olga Borodina, Rinat Shaham you'll hear the difference. Check out especially how Joyce DiDonato sings "Una voce poco fa"; also how the rest of the singers I mention sing habanera from Carmen.

@bevo71 - I agree, Barbara was miles ahead of other contestants last year (and this year too) and should've won.

Waiting for a CD.

Hello!
I won"t get redundant in who I think should have won the last AGT, Barbara's talent and beauty, as everyone here knows my thoughts...

I will comment to Sharons' comment of fat and sweaty opera singers. To lump all opera singers in this category was inexcusable. Ok I can't sing opera but am fat and often sweaty (yes I hate it) and this is a hot topic for me as the discrimination towards the fat and unperfect in our society is disgusting. Sorry Sharon but I would have gotten a gastric bypass too and all the plastic surgery you have had if I had your money and don"t even get me started on your mate...

Sharon who after Barbara's performance told her "I bow down to you" clearly showed who she thought was the greater person. While I bow down to no man just God, I thought her gushing over Barbara was neat. Too bad she doesn't remember from one day to the next.

I'd like to add to it, that opera has always been music first, and yes some of opera singers are fat and, given that singing without a microphone in a 4000 seat theater and in heavy costume is physically demanding, some of them might be quite sweaty. But I'd imagine the vast majority of opera-goers would take a fat singer that can sing the role well over a thin one that can't any day. A fat singer I heard recently in Caramoor in the demanding role of Norma was much better than a thin one I heard a couple of years ago at the Met. I'd imagine she was sweaty too given that she sang a demanding role without microphones in an outdoor theater in 90 degree weather. Not only Sharon used stereotypes and lumped all opera singers in one category, she also insulted a number of amazing singers who'd be remembered long after Sharon is forgotten.

But I am getting off topic here...

" Too bad she doesn't remember from one day to the next"
Exactly. Barbara was there just one season ago.

Just for Sharon to slam "fat" people is not ok, whether they are opera singers or not. People come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors and to discriminate against size is just as inexusable as to discrimate against color, etc. Seems to be her memory is slipping as yes, Barbara was just there last season and it was not that long ago that Sharon as well as her daughter were also overweight. Too bad people are slammed for not fitting into society's perception of that which is beautiful and therefore made to feel ugly.

Again by this remark Sharon did not insult only opera singers but a good portion of the rest of the world.

While I agree with what's been said about this year's AGT talent, has anyone else noticed that Jackie Evancho has sung the same two songs that Barbara sang and in the same order as Barbara. I wonder if they have been communicating and Jackie is either emulating Barbara or maybe getting a little coaching from her?????

I can tell you that Barbara and Jackie haven't had any contact. I don't think that would be permitted by the show. It will be interesting to see if the trend continues and Jackie sings Ave Maria for her next performance. I would bet that she would do the Schubert version instead of Gounod. But that's just a guess.
